The causes of yeast
infections

Candida albicans is yeast
like fungus which is often found in the mouth, vagina, and intestinal tract; it is a normal inhabitant of
humans that usually does not cause any adverse effects. Candida of the mouth is known as thrush and is often found in
infants and people with a variety of health conditions. When Candida is found in the vagina it is known as yeast infection or
monomials virginities.
Yeast infections are caused by an overgrowth of the normal fungi that lives in the
vaginal area. The most common fungi is Candida alb
cans. Overgrowth of Candida is often
precluded by recent use of antibiotics, or by wearing clothing such as nylon or lycra that traps moisture and
heat. Other factors that often contribute to yeast infections include pregnancy, obesity, PMS, multiple
sclerosis, and diabetes.

- In women, yeast infections are the second most common reason for vaginal burning,
itching, and discharge. Yeasts are found in the vagina of most women and can overgrow if the environment
in the vagina changes. Antibiotic and steroid use is the most common reason for yeast overgrowth. But
pregnancy, menstruation, sperm, diabetes, and birth control pills also can contribute to getting a yeast
infection. Yeast infections are more common after menopause.
- In people who have a weakened immune system because of cancer treatments,
steroids, or diseases such as AIDS, Candida infections can occur throughout the entire body and can be
life-threatening. The blood, brain, eye, kidney, and heart are most frequently affected, but the Candida
fungus also can grow in the lungs, liver, and spleen. Candida is the leading cause of
esophagi is (inflammation in the throat) in people with AIDS.
- Almost 15% of people with weakened immune systems develop a systemic illness
caused by Candida. These infections enter into the bloodstream through breakdowns or cuts in the
skin or mucous membranes. Candida organisms may build up in an area because of frequent use of strong
antibiotics, which kill the bacteria that normally keep it under control.
- Use of devices implanted in the skin such as urinary catheters and IV ports also
provide access for the yeast to enter the body. IV drug addicts using dirty needles may inject the yeast
directly into their bloodstream or deep tissues
Vaginal
yeast infection (female yeast infection)
Can be caused by taking birth control pills, steroids or antibiotics. It can also be
related to sensitivity to soaps or douches, sexual transmission, pregnancy and diabetes.
Wearing clothing that’s too tight in the crotch area and wearing damp underwear or
swim suits in warm weather may also trigger the growth of fungus.
Those most at risk to develop thrush are adults with weakened immune systems that
result from the use of antibiotics or steroids, or adults with AIDS.
Those with auto-immune disorders such as fibromyalgia and lupus are also at
risk.
Various
Causes of Yeast Infection:
